My favorite mantra before and during a tense situation is Stay calm, Be curious. I've also practiced the squeezing toes technique, and it helps.

I like the wiggling toes one too, sometimes I use it when I'm about to go on stage for a keynote if I'm feeling a bit nervous. It seems like it shouldn't be as useful as it is!
